Description
Sentinel Spectrum (milbemycin oxime, lufenuron, praziquantel) is an oral chew that is given to dogs and puppies that are at least 6 weeks old and weigh at least 2 pounds to:
- Prevent heartworm disease
- Prevent and control fleas
- Treat and control roundworm, hookworm, whipworm, and tapeworm infections
Sentinel Spectrum chews are available to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian. The chews come in 4 sizes for dogs and puppies with different weights.
Directions
Administer Sentinel Spectrum orally once a month as directed by your veterinarian. Your veterinarian will determine an appropriate dosage for your dog or puppy. Refer to the medication leaflet that comes with the prescription for more information on the use of Sentinel Spectrum.
Administer the chew by hand or with a small amount of dog food. Encourage your dog to chew it rather than swallow it whole. You may break the chew into pieces if your dog normally swallows treats whole. Make sure your dog consumes the entire dose. It is recommended to redose if you suspect any of the dose has been lost.
Store Sentinel Spectrum chews between 59°F and 77°F (15°C and 25°C); keep dry.
Talk to your veterinarian about any questions or concerns that arise.

Cautions
- Before your dog begins Sentinel Spectrum therapy, talk to your veterinarian about your dog’s medications, allergies, current health problems, past medical history, and status of pregnancy, breeding, or lactation.
- Sentinel Spectrum should not be given to puppies that are younger than 6 weeks old or weigh less than 2 pounds.
- Treatment with fewer than 6 monthly doses following the last mosquito exposure may not completely prevent heartworm.
- Before your dog begins Sentinel Spectrum, it should be tested for existing heartworm infections, as the medication is not effective against adult D. immitis.
- Some dogs that received milbemycin oxime carrying a high number of circulating microfilariae experienced labored breathing, vomiting, excessive salivation, lethargy, and other mild, transient hypersensitivity reactions. These reactions are suspected to be caused by the release of protein from dead or dying microfilariae.
Side Effects
Sentinel Spectrum side effects include vomiting, depression/ lethargy, itching, hives, diarrhea, anorexia, skin congestion, coordination problems, convulsions, salivation, and weakness.
Call your veterinarian right away if your dog develops side effects that become worrisome or won’t go away.
